Therapeutic indications, specifying the target species: For use in dogs with, or at risk from, mixed parasitic infestations/infections with ticks, fleas, gastrointestinal nematodes, heartworm and/or lungworm. This veterinary medicinal product is indicated when concomitant treatment against ticks/fleas and gastrointestinal nematodes or concomitant treatment against ticks/fleas and prevention of heartworm disease/lungworm disease is required.
- Ticks and fleas: For the treatment of tick (Dermacentor reticulatus, Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus and I. hexagonus) and flea (Ctenocephalides felis and C. canis) infestations in dogs. This veterinary medicinal product has immediate and persistent tick and flea killing activity for 1 month. The veterinary medicinal product can be used as part of a treatment strategy for the control of flea allergy dermatitis (FAD).
- Gastrointestinal nematodes: Treatment of gastrointestinal nematodes: hookworm (L4, immature adults (L5) and adults of Ancylostoma caninum), roundworm (L4, immature adults (L5) and adults of Toxocara canis, and adults of Toxascaris leonina), and whipworm (adults of Trichuris vulpis).
- Heartworm: Prevention of heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis).
- Lungworm: Prevention of angiostrongylosis by reducing the level of infection with immature adult (L5) and adult stages of Angiostrongylus vasorum with monthly administration.
Credelio Plus is a veterinary medicinal product used in dogs for the simultaneous treatment of infestations with parasites living on the outside of the animal (ticks and/or fleas) and inside the animal (worms). The veterinary medicinal product can be used as part of a treatment strategy for the control of flea allergy dermatitis (allergic reaction to flea bites). Credelio Plus contains the active substances lotilaner and milbemycin oxime.
How is Credelio Plus used?
Credelio Plus is a prescription-only medicine. The veterinary medicinal product comes as chewable tablets in five different strengths. The dose depends on the dog's weight. The tablets should be given with food or after feeding. The need, schedule, and frequency of Credelio Plus treatment should be evaluated by the prescribing veterinarian. How does Credelio Plus work?
The active substances in Credelio Plus work by affecting the way signals are transmitted between nerve cells (neurotransmission) in the nervous system of parasites, leading to paralysis and death of the parasite. Lotilaner acts as an "ectoparasiticide". This means it kills parasites that live on the skin or in the fur of animals, such as fleas and ticks. Lotilaner kills parasites that have ingested the animal's blood.
