JBL MicroMec is a highly porous bio-filtering material, made of glass, allowing efficient biological purification of pollutants. JBL MicroMec is a good and intensive biologically active long-lasting filter media for freshwater and saltwater aquariums. The special conical tunnels offer perfect conditions for the colonization of beneficial nitrifying bacteria. Compared to ceramic rings, JBL MicroMec offers conditions suitable for colonization by more types of bacteria. For example, ammonia and nitrite purifying bacteria are located in the outer layers. While the optimal conditions for bacteria that lead to the breakdown of nitrates are in the inner layers. This makes it possible even in small filters.
Instructions for use: Rinse thoroughly with clean drinking water to remove any dust created during transport. Place JBL MicroMec in the filter in such a way that it is not contaminated by the JBL Symec (wool) layer, which can be easily cleaned at regular intervals. JBL MicroMec should be rinsed occasionally with cold running water. For optimal results, about half of the JBL MicroMec pellets should be replaced with new ones after about 6 months.
JBL MicroMec and JBL SintoMec are some of JBL's most serious product developments. The result of the JBL development department's activity is these products, suitable even for small internal filters. Most current filter media do not offer such a level of processing of ammonium and nitrite compounds due to the different suboptimal forms of porous structures. The size of the balls allows their use in internal filters, but it is also possible to fill lost space in other cases - the gaps between individual filter media.
JBL SintoMec are white bio-filtering rings with an inner opening of only 5mm. This filter media is suitable for larger external filters where a larger amount of filter media is needed. By replacing conventional ceramic rings as filter media, JBL SintoMec has a larger accessible surface area.
The porosity of the rings can be easily demonstrated by applying a small drop of colored liquid and observing the speed of dye penetration through the pores.
