Its acidifying action on urine and low magnesium content make it suitable for dissolving struvite stones and reducing their recurrence. The food's formula is also suitable for managing lower urinary tract diseases.
Duration of feeding:
5 to 12 weeks of treatment with the food are required for the dissolution of struvite stones. To prevent recurrence, the food should be prescribed for at least another 6 months, after urinalysis. Once the cat has been successfully treated, it can be maintained on Urinary S/O or one of the following foods may be recommended:
Young Male, Skin Young Male S/O, Young Female, Skin Young Female S/O, Mature or Senior.
Struvite dissolution
Urinary S/O Feline effectively dissolves struvite stones.
Urinary dilution
Urinary dilution reduces the concentration of struvite and calcium oxalate stones in the urine. More frequent urination also ensures regular flushing of the bladder.
Limited supersaturation
Low saturated urine is an environment in which crystals cannot proliferate. Thus, urine is unfavorable for the development of struvite and calcium oxalate stones.
Bladder maintenance
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) occur naturally in the healthy bladder mucosa but are reduced in idiopathic cystitis. This causes increased permeability of the bladder to bacteria, toxins, and ions, leading to bladder infection and stimulation of pain receptors.
