Duration of dietary program: Dissolution of struvite urinary stones takes approximately 5 – 12 weeks. In case of infection, URINARY LP 18 is recommended for up to one month after a negative bacterial culture result is obtained.
Specific characteristics of URINARY LP 18 - Increased urine volume leads to reduced concentration, which prevents the formation of urinary stones. Acidification of urine inhibits struvite precipitation by reducing available phosphorus ions and creating unfavorable conditions for bacterial growth. Magnesium is a key component of struvites (magnesium-ammonium-phosphate hexahydrates). URINARY LP 18 has low magnesium content.
Additional information: A moderate increase in sodium content in the food leads to a reduction in urine concentration, which, along with its acidification, provides protection against struvite urinary stone formation.
